Abstract: In recent years, Low Cost Carriers (LCCs) has been developed around the world. Starting from year 2010, the number of LCCs increased from 4 to 20 within 6 years. It is common that these LCCs fly between secondary airports. Currently, there are four international airports in Taiwan, including Taoyuan International Airport, Kaohsiung International Airport, Taipei Songshan Airport and Taichung International Airport, which allow passengers to have more choices on the airports that they would like to landing. It is necessary for the airports management to aware of the behavior changes of passengers. This paper aims to analyze the passenger choice intention for LCCs and airports factors.
There are two types of questionnaires prepared for both passengers and experts in this study. A total sample of 971 passenger survey data was collected at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, Taichung International Airport and Kaohsiung International Airport. The data were then analyzed through Reliability Test, Descriptive Analysis, Independent-Samples t-test and One-Way ANOVA. 23 valid questionnaires were completed by the experts who came from airline industry, government sites and academic field. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was applied in analyzing all 23 experts questionnaire in order to study the importance of selection factors. The outcome of this research shows that both the passengers and experts consider reachability and time are the main concerns of passengers in selecting airports. Another significant finding of the study is that “Safety” in LCCs has replaced “Price” to be the most important factor for both passengers and experts in choosing airlines. Based the findings, airports managements are suggested to ensure flight status are up-to-date as well as the smoothness of customs control. While for LCCs, the management should enhance on flight orperations and aircraft maintenance, as well as the flight safety educational training for crews. Additionally, they should seek for potential consumers with their competitive pricing while maintain their relationship with current consumers. Last but not least, LCCs is the main factors of attraction than airport for passengers and experts.
