    Title: The Hindrance and Adaption to the Learning Leisure Participants of Senior Citizens

    Abstract: Taiwan is gradually towards an aging society, and many studies have shown that leisure activities can slow down the energy decliing but enhance the quality of life, and reduce medical expenses and other benefits. However, most of the domestic and foreign research of seniors leisure activity are about cross-sectional studies, questionnaire survey which are difficult to explore deeply what the true feelings they have when they engaging in leisure activities. Therefore, this study will start at the perspective of the learner to explore how senior citizens to engage in leisure activity, how to adjust hindrances, and hope to provide the seniors who are new participants of recreational activities associate an empirical research as a reference.
    This study used the method of qualitative research in-depth interviews, content analysis and writing interpretation etc., it excluded the elders’ cases who cannot freely participate in the activities because of the illness or in poor physical and mental conditions , it analyzes eleven retired seniors their leisure experiences. The study found the seniors participate in leisure activities is related to their background, physical and mental conditions, thereby affects they making choices of the leisure activities. Participation background is associated with the aspects of "having more free time", "attach with another partner," "chance encounter"; their mental and physical condition are healthy, positive, aggressive ,presents their status like more "expectable", "relaxable", "confident "; and the reasons for choosing are " for their health "," for friends "," for having fun and a dream "," for filling up the gap, "and so on.
    After joining the leisure activities, the seniors would meet the obstacles which are " the obstacles of materials" ," the obstacles of hinder mental and physical feelings," "the obstacles of interpersonal interaction ", it responds and echoes the following three types of obstacles with the theory of leisure hindrances by Crawford & Godbey ( 1987) in description of structural hindrances, individual interior hindrances, interpersonal interaction hindrance. There are the ways of adjustment " meet head-on," " switched careers ", "compromise the adjustment" and other means.
    Whether seniors are through the learning models of leisure activities by "groups’ reliance " or" self-learning ", these all bring them " mental and physical health"," making friends not out of time "," personal growth ", and " the law of life " , the benefits and so on.
