    Title: Firefighter’s Social Support and Job Satisfaction from Fire Prevention Promoting Program

    Abstract: Fire prevention promoting program is one of the most important jobs of the Fire Department as well as the most critical tools to prevent fires. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the difference of individual characteristics between social support and job satisfaction moreover, whether or not the social support has influence on the job satisfaction of fire prevention promoting firefighters in four fire departments including Taichung Fire Department, Nantou Fire Department, Changhua Fire Department and Taichung Harbor Fire Brigade. Methods including Descriptive Statistics Analysis, Independent-Sample t Test, One-way ANOVA and Regression Analysis are performed on 308 questionnaires collected from above fire departments.
    The results of this study have shown that part of characteristics lead to different perception of the social support and the job satisfaction. Besides, the social support aspect is found to have positive effects on the job satisfaction aspect. According to the analyses, this study has come to the following conclusions: Firstly, among all the three social support concepts, the perception of instrumental support is the least. However, it positively affects the job satisfaction aspect the most. Secondly, promotion opportunities and the perception of the salary and benefit are the least among all concepts in the job satisfaction aspect. Thirdly, the instrumental support of the social support aspect and promotion opportunities of the job satisfaction aspect are affected by the seniority of the firefighters. Lastly, the squad leaders’ instrumental support of the social support aspect, work identities of the job satisfaction aspect as well as the salary and benefit are better than team members.
