    Abstract: "Poly mers con tain ing hydroquinone moi eties are of cur -

    e sis poly mer iza tion3
    (ROMP) of quinone and hydroquinone-
    fused norbornadiene de riv a tives 1-4 pro vided an ef fi cient
    way for the prep a ra tion of such type of mol e cules. A pre vi ous
    re port on the prep a ra tion of 7 used a bisketal de riv a tive of 3
    as start ing mono mer,4
    since ROMP di rectly from 3 does not
    pro ceed suc cess fully. Our find ings in di cated that both 1a and
    1b could be uti lized as good start ing ma te ri als for the syn the -
    ses of 5a and 5b. A sim i lar re ac tion for 2a also pro ceeded
    well for the prep a ra tion of the cor re spond ing poly mer 6a"
