This study aims to understand the relationship between the diversification of participation and spectatorship in sport types with national development , and trying to explore the sport participation diversity and sport spectatorship diversity as the possibility of the indicator of national development .
Source using the 2007 International Social Survey program (ISSP) - Leisure Time and Sports Basic Questionnaire findings regarding sports participation and spectatorship . Establish indicators with the descriptive statistical analysis of the degree of diversification in sport participation and spectatorship of countries in the world. Then divided into four national development - oriented economy , politics , culture , society , selected representative international indicators - per capita gross domestic product (GDP) of International Monetary Fund (IMF) , the freedom Index established by both of Fraser Institute in Canada and Liberales Institute in Germany , the education index Included in the human development index (HDI) of The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) , the World Happiness Report established by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and Germany GESIS Association 2007 International Social Survey programme (ISSP) on happiness and health survey , and then to calculate the statistical correlation between the indicators measure the diversity of participation and spectatorship in sport types.
The results show that the participation in various types of sports has high correlation for each side of national development. Diversified sport spectatorship also represents a country with a relatively high level of education and culture. So a country has diverse types of sports , especially sports participation, preliminarily regards as an indicator of national development. based on that , the follow-up will be more research to clarify the relationship between the two clearer.
