    Abstract: The purpose of this study is to study the relation between after-school programs period length in the and 2nd grade elementary school students, the motivation of parents’ requiring their children to participate in after-school programs, and students’ academic achievements. The main purpose is: Understand the relation between the time arrangement of after-school programs class in the 1st and 2nd grade elementary school students, the motivation of parents’ requiring their children to participate in after-school programs, and students’ academic achievements. Analyze and compare the connections of students’ participation period length, arranged period difference and parents’ motivations. Study whether the period length of after-school programs has any influence on students’ academic achievements.
    This research uses questionnaires to study, with after-school programs participation period length, period difference, and parents’ motivation as variables and students’ academic achievements as dependent variable. The study cases are 154 2nd grade elementary school students in Taichung. Moreover, we use fuzzy theoretic analysis to analyze the data obtained by “person’s basic information form” and “parents’ motivation form for after-school programs”. The results are summarized as follows:
    1.For 2nd grade elementary school students, the longer the after-school programs period length in week days, the better their academic achievement.
    2.For 2nd grade elementary school students, the shorter the after-school programs period length on weekends, the better their academic achievement.
    3.2nd grade school students will have different academic achievements due to different period of participation in after-school programs: For 2nd grade elementary school students, the longer the after-school programs period length in week days, the better their academic achievement; the shorter the after-school programs period length on weekends, the better their academic achievement. Finally, according to the above study results, offer concrete suggestions for the reference of 2nd grade students’ learning, teachers’ teaching, parents, educational superintendent units and after-school institutions; we also give suggestions for related future study.
