    We have developed video inpainting technologies due to the project supported
    by NSC (97-2631-H-152-001). To continue our research in new technologies for
    digital content creation, we propose a two-year new technology-oriented project,
    which aims to develop several cutting edge technologies for creating new movies
    from existing ones as well as creating special effects. The video technology
    proposed includes creating 3-D videos, based on multiple synchronous monocular
    videos. The first year focuses on the generation of a 3-D panorama. Typically,
    a 2-D panorama or a stereo panorama contains 2-dimensional pixels. This 3-D
    panorama contains 3-dimensional voxels, in a sequence of cubs (instead of frames).
    Technologies developed include layer segmentation, layer depth calculation, 3-D
    reconstruction, and 3-D video inpainting. The second year investigates special
    effect technologies such as camera effects, slow motion interpolation and
    extrapolation, 3-D object video construction, layer fusion, perspective
    transformation to display 3-D video, and an authoring tool to integrate the above
    technologies. This project has several difficult challenges. We aim to
    contribute to the national project in producing automatic tools and publishing
    high-quality journal papers.
